MLB: Texas 8, Toronto 1     (Sports News)
09/08/2010 09:24 P (EST)
TORONTO, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Ian Kinsler opened the game with a homer Wednesday, touching off a 16-hit attack that brought Texas a much-needed 8-1 win over Toronto.

The Rangers snapped a five-game losing streak. After owning a 10-game lead over Oakland in the American League West late last week, Texas had seen its advantage trimmed to seven games heading into Wednesday's action.

Kinsler also scored in the second on a single by Michael Young and Texas steadily built its lead before breaking things open with three in the ninth, two of them scoring on a homer by Nelson Cruz.

It was the first Texas victory since outfielder Josh Hamilton and his .361 batting average left the lineup due to bruised ribs suffered when crashing into the wall in Minnesota last Saturday. He has not gone on the disabled list, but there is no timetable for his return.

Derek Holland (3-3), who has missed most of the season due to injury, struck out eight in just five innings to get the win. Four relievers worked an inning each to close out the victory.

Marc Rzepczynski, making the 19th start of his two-year career, allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings to take the loss.
