BOSTON, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A two-day rock music festival will put the Boston area on the musical map and may raise $1 million for a children's charity, its organizers say.
The "Life is Good Festival" will mix well-known rock acts with events parents will feel safe about taking their kids to see, spokesman James Macdonald said in report in The Boston Globe Sunday.
Life is Good Co. is a Boston-based seller of casual clothing, and founder of the Life is good Kids Foundation charity. The festival will be held Sept. 11 and 12 at Canton.
"The point of the festival is to raise money for kids. The other point is to build a music event where 8-year-olds and 20-year-olds can live harmoniously," said spokesman James Macdonald. "It's a rock 'n' roll concert you can bring the kids to."
Acts include Jason Mraz, Mavis Staples, Ziggy Marley and hometown heroes They Might Be Giants. The event will occupy two stages and is expected to draw up to 40,000 fans.
"It's about time," said Adam Gardner, lead singer of the Boston rock band Guster, which will play the festival. "I understand why it's taken this long for a rock festival to come together; there's already so much music happening around the city. But if Boston can have a chowder festival, why wouldn't we have a music festival?"
