BALTIMORE, July 29 (UPI) -- Veteran Manager Buck Showalter has been hired to take over the managing duties of the Baltimore Orioles.
The team scheduled a news conference Monday to introduce Showalter, 54, as the replacement for Dave Trembley, who was fired June 4 when the team had a major-league worse 15-39 record.
Juan Samuel has been interim manager since Trembley was fired, posting a 16-31 mark but the overall Baltimore record of 31-70 is still the worst in baseball.
Showalter managed the New York Yankees from 1992-95, the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1998-2000 and Texas Rangers from 2003-06, fashioning an 882-833 record. The Yankees and Diamondbacks each won the World Series a year after Showalter left the teams.
He was the American League manager of the year in 1994 and again in 2004.
He currently serves as a baseball analyst for ESPN.
