Oldest British Twitterer dies at 104     (Entertainment News)
07/29/2010 11:54 A (EST)
BRADFORD, England, July 29 (UPI) -- A centenarian who gained a celebrity following as the oldest British Twitterer has died at 104.

Ivy Bean died early Wednesday at Hillside Manor in Bradford, The Mirror reported. A few hours before her death, singer Peter Andre, one of the 56,000 people who followed her on Twitter, called her for a final chat.

"We all cried as he said on the loudspeaker, 'Hello darling, it's Peter.' He told her he was thinking about her -- and he loved her," said Pat Wright, the manager of Hillside Manor. "She hadn't opened her eyes for 24 hours. But she did for him and gave a little final smile."

Her daughter, Sandra Logan, sent news of her death to Bean's Twitter following. Her other fans included actor Stephen Fry, who called her "the divine @IvyBean104," and Sarah Brown, wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who described her as "an inspiration to Twitterers young and old."

Bean was inspired to begin her Twitter career by the example of a 97-year-old French woman.
