NEWPORT NEWS, Va., July 28 (UPI) -- A grand jury in Virginia has indicted a former Army contractor on charges of involuntary manslaughter and assault in a fatal crash in Kuwait, documents show.
Morgan Hanks, 25, of Newport News, Va., was arrested Tuesday on a federal indictment alleging he tried to pass an eight-vehicle convoy on a two-lane road, causing a collision that left one sailor dead and another seriously wounded, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Wednesday.
Hanks was speeding, the indictment said.
The dead sailor was identified as Brian Patton. The other sailor, David Morgan, suffered a severe brain injury.
Hometowns of the servicemen were not released, the newspaper said.
A U.S. District Court judge ordered Hanks detained until a bond hearing Friday.
At the time of the November 2009 incident, Hanks was employed by the military contractor Combat Support Associates Ltd.
