Ian Desmond and Adam Dunn each hit home runs and scored twice Thursday in helping the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Desmond had a second-inning home run that put Washington ahead 2-0 and Dunn's eighth-inning shot completed the scoring for the Nationals.

Scott Olsen, activated just before the game, improved to 3-2. He allowed five hits and walked two while giving up three runs -- two earned -- in six innings. Matt Capps pitched a perfect ninth for his 26th save.

Atlanta's Derek Lowe (10-9) was touched for five hits and four runs in five innings.

Dunn doubled and scored before Desmond's second-inning home run and Desmond was on base when Wil Nieves had a two-run single for Washington in the fourth.

Matt Diaz had a two-run homer for Atlanta in the third and scored the other Braves run in the sixth after reaching on a Desmond error.
